GASTROENTEROLOGY (GI1)
Hands-On for Medical Students:
- Hands-on: 100% Outpatient clinic setting.
- Location: New York

Rotation schedule:
Monday to Wednesday - 08:00 am to 01:00 pm ET (New York Time).
Friday and Saturday clinics are optional and occur a few days a month.
*Please note: Timings may vary based on patient appointments. - Students will be exposed to, and engaged in, presenting clinical cases, direct access to patient care, the EMR system, writing their own H/Ps, reviewing medications, reading Imaging and lab results under the supervision of the attending.
- Area of focus includes: A wide variety of patients in Gastroenterology ranging from anal fissures, Cirrhosis, Chronic Pancreatitis, Constipation, Diverticulitis, Diverticulosis, GERD, Esophagitis, Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage, IBD, Intestinal Obstruction, IBS, Infectious liver disease, Malignant neoplasm of Colon, Malignancy neoplasm of the esophagus, Pancreatic cancer, Gastric Cancer, other abdominal cancer, Peptic Ulcer Disease, and Ischemic Bowel Disease. Office procedures like Upper Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, and Liver Biopsy.
- The Attending (doctor) is affiliated with SUNY Downstate Hospital, and the hospital has an Internal Medicine residency.
- Letters of recommendation will be issued based on the merit of the individual. Letters of recommendation will be given on the Private Clinic's Letterhead mentioning the Doctor's affiliation with the Hospital.
- It is imperative that participants appear on time, have reliable access to transportation, are capable of writing, and are familiar with history-taking.
Observership for Graduates:
- Observership: 100% Outpatient clinic setting.

*Please note: Timings may vary based on patient appointments. - Participants doing Observership will get to see a wide variety of cases in Gastroenterology ranging from anal fissures, Cirrhosis, Chronic Pancreatitis, Constipation, Diverticulitis, Diverticulosis, GERD, Esophagitis, Gastrointestinal Hemorrhage, IBD, Intestinal Obstruction, IBS, Infectious liver disease, Malignant neoplasm of Colon, Malignancy neoplasm of the esophagus, Pancreatic cancer, Gastric Cancer, other abdominal cancer, Peptic Ulcer Disease, and Ischemic Bowel Disease. - Participants will observe in the clinic setting and will shadow the attending in that capacity at the clinic.

Cost of rotation: $1600 per 4 weeks.
